That Silva, eh? Genuis or what?

I’m of course referring to David of that name who had a thumping night at Swansea and for those of us clear sighted enough to select him as Captain (preen, preen) it didn’t really matter what else happened.
I promised a few weeks ago to stop riffing on Harry Kane’s suitability as Captain, so all I’ll say is that all 3 eliminated players had selected him, and all of them had at least one alternative option that would’ve seen them survive – as it happens, one of this week’s top scorers had also selected him, so what does that tell you? Nothing, that’s what.
A quite high scoring week, this week, with the 3 eliminated players being the only teams to score below 40.

I don’t know whether I should mention this, but I outscored all 33 of this week’s competitors; yes, OK, I was eliminated 7 weeks ago, but it’s my competition, my blog and my birthday so … 68 points and on page 1 of the WML league table – I’ll be back on page 2 on Monday, you see.

Anyway, that’s enough of my wittering, this is why you’re both here:

Week 17

Average Score: 50.52 (33 participants) – overall competition average 48

Highest Score: 65 – overall competition high score 128

Overall Competitors: 5,513,741 (an increase of just 18,358 – has the message got through, do you think?)

Eliminated This Week:

With 32 points: Silva Machine (Russ Barker)
Gameweek Rank:
Key Selections:
Captain – Kane (Spurs) : 2=4 – successful alternatives: 1
8 others scored 9 between them.
Nothing would’ve helped.

With 36 points: Harry Hornet 1955 (Ian Dell)
Gameweek Rank:
Key Selections:
Captain – Kane (Spurs) : 2=4 – successful alternatives: 2 (1 on the bench)
6 other players scored 8 between them
Playing Monreal (Arsenal) : 8 instead of any of 5 others would’ve done it.

With 38 points: When Ken’s Fishing (Ian Poole)
Gameweek Rank:
Key Selections:
Captain – Kane (Spurs) : 2=4 – successful alternatives: 4 (1 on the bench)
5 other players scored 5 between them
Playing Foster (West Brom) : 10 instead of Forster (Southampton) : 1 would’ve been enough.

Surviving this week:

Barnestoneworth Utd (Tim Turner)
Cupid Stunts (Antony Stunt)
Why Am I Doing This? (James Tweats)
All scored 40

Top Scorers:

With 65 points : Choktaw Bingo (Andrew Taylor)
Gameweek Rank:
Key Selections:
Silva (Man City) : 16
de Gea (Man Utd) : 11
Sterling (Man City) : 9
Kane (Spurs) : (C) 2=4

With 65 points : Vicarage Roeders (James McNeil)
Gameweek Rank:
Key Selections:
Silva (Man City) : (VC) 16=32
de Gea (Man Utd) : 11
6 others scored 7 between them

So we now have our final 30 players going into Week 18.
